The mysterious port town of Split
The following is a report on the
The group left Croatia for a day and stopped in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Next, we went further north and came to the city of Split in Croatia.
The origins of the city of Split are very unique.
It was built as a palace for the Roman Emperor Diocletian to spend his last years quietly, and the emperor spent six years here,
After the death of the emperor, this palace was abandoned for hundreds of years as the Roman Empire declined.
In its ruins, around the 7th century, people began to live in the palace where they had been marooned and built their own houses.
The palace grounds are rectangular, measuring approximately 215 meters from north to south and 180 meters from east to west.
The palace is surrounded by a 20-meter-high wall, and the palace and its surroundings are packed with attractions.
Now, let's enter the old town!
Passing through the gate, you will find yourself in a mysterious space where the modern and the ancient intersect.
While the cafe has parasols, in the back there is a modern? In the back of the building, there is a modern hotel.
There are many narrow side streets.
It was a very strange feeling to see people's lives, with their laundry hanging out to dry.
The integration with this old building is amazing.
Part of the basement can also be passed through free of charge.
Souvenir shops are crowded during the day.
Passing out of the palace, one gets the feeling of a European seaside resort.
The port is right in front of you.
The old town is also compact enough to wander around on foot.
I enjoyed it very much.
Split is a great base for visiting Croatia's small islands.
I had been trying to decide whether to relax in the city or go to one of the islands when I arrived in Split.
Since the weather looked good, we decided to go on a day trip to "Hvar Island" the next day.
