Hello, I am Nakai, an Adan staff member.
We would like to report on the exhibition of Indian woodblock print chintz that we recently visited.
Iwatate Folk Textile MuseumIt is a small museum located in Jiyugaoka called
It is very accessible, just a 2-minute walk north from the rotary at the front exit of Jiyugaoka Station.
I have just walked around the neighborhood shopping many times,
I had not noticed it until this visit.
The third floor is an exhibition space. The signage is tasteful and nice.
Photography is not allowed, so this is the end of the photos.
Although small, it is a very valuable museum with a collection of about 4,000 items from India and about 4,000 items from other countries, for a total of about 8,000 dyed and woven items.
Today, though, most are machine-woven and printed for mass production,
It was a very fulfilling experience to see the fruits of handwork woven decades and centuries ago.
laborEach work has a story to tell, created with no thought to the time and effort involved,
It was a day when I once again felt the goodness of handmade products.
This exhibit will be on display until 7/14.
If you are interested, please visit us.
