In this installment of our several-part travelogue of Elba Island, we will talk about jewelry as if it were a jewelry store!

The beaches of Elba Island are a mixture of many minerals like this.
As the island produces various types of minerals, souvenir shops are lined with souvenirs made from stones.
There are also many stores in Porto Marina di Campo, a downtown area along the harbor, and many of them are open until late at night!
It is indeed a resort area.
Even though June is still before the full on-season, many stores are open until around 10pm.
Everyone spent time after dinner eating gelato and taking walks.
This neon store stands out in the darkness, displaying a number of stones.
Inside there were many fun things to look at, such as rough crystals and natural stone accessories, but then I found it!
Mineral specimens from Elba Island!
Of course I bought one as a souvenir for myself!
The price was reasonable, about 20 euros.
Now that you know that Elba Island is rich in minerals, we would like to inform you of one last important detail.
What a ......The gemstone "Elbaite" was first discovered here on Elba Island...!
It's like, what are you getting so hot about?
I know, I didn't get it at first either. However, to my surprise, this elbaite is a gemstone that you know very well.
For example, these two in the foreground,
This bi-colored stone,,
That's right...! You all know tourmaline!
There are many different types of tourmaline, but most gem-quality tourmaline is classified as elbaite.
Rubellite tourmaline, indigo tourmaline, and other tourmalines that are made into jewelry are almost always here, elbite.
It is said that the name "elbaite" was derived from the island of Elba where it was excavated, but the actual amount produced on the island is so small that it is no longer available on the market as a gemstone, let alone as a museum exhibit.
I was in the mood for a vacation, thinking about the ocean and its delicious fish, so I did not do any research before my trip. I was shocked.
Well, well, but I was so busy playing outside during the day that I didn't have time to go anyway!
I tried to calm myself down, but the back of the pamphlet says that the museum is open only until 10:30 p.m....... I can't regret it enough (T_T).
I will definitely see Elvite next time!
