This is Fujimori, the manager. Today is just the seventh day of my business trip.
I arrived safely in Hong Kong yesterday from Bangkok!
The Hong Kong Jewelry Fair, which I am visiting for the first time, is held three times a year, but the February and September fairs are on an incredible scale. The February and September fairs are huge.
We are also doing it at two venues, but it feels like we are using all of both Big Sight and Makuhari Messe.
For the opening, a lion dance paraded through the venue.
This is my first visit, so I can't compare it to an average year, but it is gorgeous and does not feel recessionary at all.
I skipped all the manufacturers' booths because I felt dizzy from the sheer volume of exhibits. It's no use looking at things made by other people from the very beginning.
The most impressive exhibits were the antique jewelry and unbelievably gorgeous jewelry displayed in a booth called "Fine Design Pavilion" (a large hall about the size of the Tokyo Dome). There were many pieces of jewelry that cost over 10 million yen (imagine that) for a single piece.
This fair in Hong Kong was also an inspection trip presented as a complimentary gift for the major prize of the recent Jewelry Design Award 2009, so I visited the venue with the award winners and was able to have lunch with them.
For lunch, I led everyone out of the venue to eat shark's fin soup dumplings, the main purpose (lie) of this visit to Hong Kong.
In Japan, there are branches in Ginza and Marunouchi.Fook lam Moon The main restaurant in Hong Kong serves shark's fin soup dumplings at about half the price of Japanese dumplings.
The dim sum everyone chose was all delicious. It was a good dim sum time.
In the evening, after a rest at the hotel,Jewelry Design Award Winners and Takashi Ishii, the creator of the "The Night View", to Hong Kong at night for a classic night view and dinner.
We celebrated the award once again with a toast while looking at the night view.
Tomorrow is finally the last day of this trip.
We will make our final purchases at the second venue adjacent to the airport and return directly to Japan!
We will blog again about the results of our stocking up after we return home. Enjoy!
