This is Kubota from Adan Staff.
Happy New Year!
We look forward to working with you again this year.
This holiday season has been a great time to go out........
I went to Shikoku for the first time in my life during my vacation!
This is a place called Angel Road on Shodoshima Island in Kagawa Prefecture, famous for its olives.
Depending on the ebb and flow of salt, you may or may not be able to go to Mukai Island.
It was very easy to understand because the tourist information center at the ferry terminal has information on the ebb and flow of the tide and the recommended times of day.
This is Naoshima Island, famous for Yayoi Kusama's pumpkins.
So I went to a rather interesting museum, and I'd like to introduce it to you.
This museum is located on Naoshima, an island famous for its art,
Chichu Art Museum!
It's literally a museum buried underground.

The museum, designed by Tadao Ando so as not to spoil the landscape of Naoshima, has exhibition rooms built into the hillside,
The structure was a maze of paths between them.
When I heard that it was underground, I wondered if it would be dimly lit,
The rooms with natural light coming in from the ground and the atrium corridor were very calm and bright, making me want to linger in the place.
Of course, there are dark rooms and corridors, and the time it takes for your eyes to adjust to the blurriness is fun, like exploring.
There are three rooms in the museum, separated by artist, and I particularly enjoyed the James Turrell exhibit.
There was a room for eight people with a changeover system, and I proceeded across the threshold as I was guided,
I won't spoil it, but the exhibition made me think that stereotypes are terrible.
I am grateful to Mr. Turrell for alleviating my somewhat existing aversion to contemporary art!
It seems that winter is a quiet season on Naoshima Island, where the museum is located, and on the day we visited, the island was sparsely populated, with some rooms even reserved for private viewing.
When it's crowded, you can wait up to 3 hours (!). It is recommended to visit in winter if you are planning to appreciate the beauty of the city, even though it is a bit cold.
Incidentally, rental bicycles seem to be very popular on Naoshima, and I rented one to get around the island!
Here is my partner for this project.
-MAMACHARI- Yes, it's Mamachari.
I decided to take a mama bicycle because the museum was only 15 minutes away, and I thought, well, 15 minutes will do.
The store owner had warned me that there would be ups and downs along the way, but I underestimated the slopes of the island.
If anyone rents, I highly recommend a geared bike!
The uphill is really a battle against yourself, but other than that, there are some pleasant seaside paths that are very refreshing.
The road along the sea in the photo above is closed to bicycles during busy periods, but on this day, a security guard at Benesse House told me that it was passable, and I cycled along it while admiring the spectacular view.
*Slopes are crazy hard.
After a day of fun, we saw such a beautiful sunset at the ferry terminal on the way back to the island, it was a heart-warming trip.
Touring small islands is a nice thing to do.
