After the ring has been resized, the next step is to insert the stones.
The ring originally contained seven birthstones for seven children, but one amethyst was removed for some reason, and only six stones have been attached ever since.
So, the first step is to install the stone seat.
A new stone seat for the amethyst will be made right next to the stone that currently holds the stone, and the stone will be clamped to it.
The stone seat is made up of four thin lines, and the stones are clawed with these lines.
First, create a thin line of gold that will become the nail.
Gold ingots are melted down to form a lump, then stretched little by little with a roller, and finally passed through a line drawing plate using a vise to create a thin gold line, as shown in the photo.
Next, the finished wire is welded to the ring. Normally, a gas burner is used to weld the wire to the stone seat, but in this case, the stone is right next to it, so it cannot be heated by fire.
Here, now comes the real secret weapon: the "laser welder.
Because laser welders can instantaneously heat up to thousands of degrees Celsius, only in small areas of 0.1 mm,
Welding can be performed without affecting the surrounding area.
The laser welding was filmed by inserting a special macro camera into the laser welding machine to capture the moment of welding. We were amazed at the images, which we had never seen with the naked eye.
It was quite a challenge, but we managed to complete welding the four wires to the ring. If the welding was not strong enough, the claws would break off during the crucial stone clamping, so we had to carefully check the welding condition.
Next, using a file, the four welded lines are finished into nails that stop the stone.
The spirit of the cameraman to get the shots from good angles was amazing, but both Shindo and the cameraman had to twist their bodies to meet the demands and work in quite unnatural positions.
And finally, the amethyst is set in place.
Again, this is a macro camera, super zoom.
A rare chance to take a closer look at a world that can only be seen through a loupe.
I took a video of the camera monitor ↓.

Finally, finish the whole thing, and voila!
It took about 6 hours from the start of the work to this point, since we were taking pictures while we were doing it. Thank you very much for your hard work!
We will show you the finished ring in the next issue.
Please look forward to it!
