We are ADAM, a custom-made jewelry company in Sangenjaya.
I recently visited a costume jewelry exhibition at the Panasonic Shiodome Museum of Art.
As a beginner in the genre of costume jewelry, which I was not familiar with before, I enjoyed viewing the exhibition with a "hmmm" and a "wry smile" from time to time.
The difference between costume jewelry and the precious metal jewelry we usually deal with is, first and foremost, the material.
I was surprised at the wide range of materials used: alloys, enamel, glass, felt, shells, nuts...you name it.
And the fact that precious metals are not used as materials allows for a much greater degree of freedom in design.
Precious metals such as platinum and gold have high specific gravity and weight, but they are also strong enough to be used in small quantities.
The value of the metal itself is also high, so we will generally tailor the jewelry with the required amount of metal.
Costume jewelry is also free from cost constraints by using glass or imitation pearls instead of expensive gemstones.
Metals and stones are no longer "all-you-can-use-of-anything.
It was very enjoyable to watch the designers freely express their ideas and assertions.
Although it initially served as an alternative to real jewelry, it has blossomed into a completely different genre because of its freedom of design.
At the venue, the exhibits were grouped by designer, and in any case, each had a rich individuality of its own!
There are also many motif-based and storytelling designs,
It was also nice to enjoy the riddle of what jewelry it represented without looking at the title first.
What were the circumstances under which these pieces of jewelry were worn at the time?
They were an addition to fashion.
It can be worn with a dress for a dinner party or with a black suit for work.
It must have been an exciting presence that lifted the spirits of both myself and those around me a bit, and also a great conversation starter.
If you are going to the exhibition, please take a step back and look at the works from a little distance.
Imagine that a person wearing that jewelry appeared in front of you, and you may feel as if you were typing back to that time.
It is fun to look at them while thinking, "This one is for a party, this one is for a vacation.
Some of them will say, "When in the world am I going to wear this! And there are a lot of them. And there are a lot of them. LOL.
The exhibition took only about an hour to complete, so how about a casual autumn outing to the arts?
