I went to the workshop of "Basque," a woodblock print of Tokat, Turkey.

Hello, I am Nakai, an Adan staff member.

Carrot Tower is located right in front of the atelier.

The exhibition "Basque Woodblock Prints by Tokat, Turkey" was being held at the Seikatsu Kobo on the third floor,

I have been visiting.

The site is located atthis way (direction close to the speaker or towards the speaker)

Tokat Province is located in northern Turkey.

I had never heard of this place before, but it is famous for making "basque" and has a 600-year history.

Basque is a handcraft in which hand prints are made on fabrics such as scarves using woodblocks. The dried linden wood is carved by hand with special tools, ink is applied to the woodblock, and the woodblock is pressed onto the fabric.

More than 100 scarves and textiles were on display at the exhibition,
A video showed the traditional method of production.

Every one of them is beautiful.

The warmth that comes from the fact that it is handmade.
It is conveyed through the work.

Afterwards,
I participated in a scarf-making workshop.

The magnification is a whopping 6 times.
I was lucky enough to win the lottery and took on the challenge with great enthusiasm.

As many as 50 woodblocks carved by hand from lime trees

There are endless combinations and placements to worry about!

Put it firmly on the ink,

With a fist, tap in several places so that the ink is evenly distributed.
Carefully press it onto the fabric.

Then we went back to our desks and did some coloring work!

This loose heart-like pattern is
They say it is a traditional motif of Tokat,
It means "ermah" (apple) and is very old, symbolizing wealth.

It is given to the bride who wears a scarf of half apples, which means poverty.

I had a hard time deciding on a design with lots of flowers.

Back to your childhood,
Mindlessly coloring.
It was a day when I once again felt the joy of craftsmanship.

The exhibit will run through September 1.
